Call the Valkyrie

by OrthaeVelve

Summons a spirit to grant great prowess in combat or extra strength, stamina and courage for a night.

The caster must first write the runic names for "Odin", "Freyja" and "Valkyrie" around the edge of a circle drawn in red chalk. Next, the runes for warrior, justice and partnership are drawn in the center in the same chalk. The caster sits within the circle and says an invocation to these gods and to the Valkyrie. Around the inside of the circle four candles are burned, one at each quarter and in that quarter's corresponding color. The caster then makes an offering of deer meat and mead to the gods. They are asked to bless the meal and infuse it with their strength, valor and blessings. Half the meat is then eaten by the caster, and half the mead is drunk. When they are finished, the rest is removed to a nearby place in the woods and left there as an offering to the gods after a few drops of the caster's blood are added to each. The caster now sits within the circle and lightly incises the three runes for warrior, justice and partnership into the skin over their heart with a ritual dagger. They then meditate on the attributes they are asking for for about 30 minutes. The ritual is in effect for the next 24 hours, or until the caster commits a dishonorable or cowardly act, whichever comes first.
